Welcome to The Three Bishops

The Three Bishops pub in Brighstone is a beautiful, classic English country pub in the heart of an especially scenic part of the Isle of Wight. The atmosphere here is relaxed, friendly and in tune with the stunning surroundings of the island and the village.

Brighstone itself has a picture postcard feel with thatched cottages, and quirky features around the village including smugglers lairs marked by secret anchors on the sides of some of the older buildings. The church dates back to the Doomsday Book, and the pub name commemorates three priests from the parish who later went on to become bishops. One of these was Samuel Wilberforce, the son of famous anti-slavery leader William, who has a road named after him in the village.

Make the most of your visit and stay with us whilst you explore the area of outstanding natural beauty, we have five letting rooms, two of the rooms have their own private gardens. We look forward to welcoming you soon!

Everything you’d expect from a great local pub

The Three Bishops is located right in the heart of the small village of Brighstone in the South West of the Isle of Wight, around half a mile from the Heritage Coast which is designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and is incredibly popular with walkers, hikers and fossil hunters. The area is also an area of outstanding natural beauty and the town is well known as a starting point for multiple walks including the round the island coastal walks and the stunning Tennyson Trail.

Explore the area

Cycling is a major attraction on the Isle of Wight and we are perfectly situated just off the island’s main coastal road, the Military Road. This is one of the most photographed roads in the country due to the stunning views across the Needles and Solent to the cliffs of Dorset. We also provide electric bicycle charging for guests in a secure area.

Well know amongst fossil hunters and enthusiasts, Brighstone is less than a mile from the cliffs and beaches that are famous in the fossil world, and that featured in the live BBC1 program, the Island. Brighstone Bay is the perfect place to find dinosaur footprints in the rocks at low tide and we would be happy to arrange fossil hunting tours on request.
